I braved the freezing rain to go downtown (it definitely wasn't for drugs) and I thought I'd snap a few crappy pics as cars start to emerge from their snow cocoons. The quality is terrible because I'm still waiting for my new iPhone to arrive. First up is this late-90s soft-top two-door RAV4.
I love the first gen RAV4 like nobody's business. It was a hardy, capable little worker with a no-nonsense gearbox and excellent ground clearance. This two-door convertible version was only offered from 1998-2000, and though I'm sure it's not the most stable thing on four wheels, it's probably a boatload of fun.
Lo, a new Cherokee in the wild. I wish they would lose the double headlight, but you can't deny this thing looks downright mean from the right angle. I'd love to see it power out of that snowbank.
Half a block up from the new Cherokee I stumbled upon this old XJ, parked here as if to say " That's not a Jeep. THAT'S a Jeep."
INTERLUDE: Remember when cars were shaped like this?
Is it just me, or does the E34 not get enough love? Especially when it's in dark green. This one was very shiny.
Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine. God how I love this car. And white-lettered tires! Be still my heart.
And strangely, a pair of beautiful XJs within a block of my apartment. I love how big the rear window is in the LWB X308.

I honestly don't mind them here for some reason.

Neither do I, look kind of at home on a odd, older Jeep. Just weird to see them.

*ahem* I disagree with the 'no nonsense' gearbox statement about the 1st gen RAV4... having 5th gear shit the bed when you're 4 hours from the closest town isn't very fun. We found half of 5th gear spread throughout the whole transmission.
Later 1st gen's
apparently
had an inspection panel on the transmission to make it easier to get to 5th gear in case it had the same manufacturing fault. I haven't found anything to verify that claim though.
